Periodontal Disease – Health of Gum Tissue
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a bacterial infection that causes destruction to the bone and gum tissue that surrounds and holds your teeth. The early stage of this disease, called gingivitis, is reversible if caught in time.
Our hygiene team is educated and experienced in caring for patients with periodontal disease. We offer non-surgical treatments to arrest progression of periodontal disease and maintain supporting bone and tissue. These treatment methods are gentle, employing local anesthetic to ensure patient comfort.
Periodontal disease can often be a silent disease and you may be unaware you even have it. Risk factors for periodontal disease are smoking, lack of flossing and brushing, family history and systemic diseases such as diabetes or heart disease. Some signs to look for are bleeding gums when flossing or brushing, tender gums, a bad taste or smell and loose teeth. The best way to prevent and treat this disease is to visit your dentist for regular care.
