Vermont Laser Dentistry
For patients who do not look forward to needles, drilling or numbness, lasers may be for you. Laser dentistry is one of the dentistry’s latest advances in technology. The laser delivers energy in the form of light. This energy travels at different wavelengths and is absorbed by a “target”. These “targets” can be enamel, decay or gum tissue. Lasers can be used for both tooth structure and soft tissue.
We have two lasers in our office, a soft tissue laser that is used to assist in non-surgical periodontal therapy, crown preparations, gum reshaping and to excise lesions in the mouth. Our hard tissue laser is used to remove decay. Often, anesthetic is not needed for treatment. Unlike the drill, with a laser, there is no heat or vibration, eliminating the whining sound.
